Ford F-150

 As the best-selling vehicle in the country for more three decades, the Ford F-150 is the top purchase across the majority of states. The F-150 comes with a 3.5-liter, V6 engine, six-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. However, its options include a 2.7-liter, Eco-boost V6; 3.5-liter, Eco-boost V6; 5.8-liter, V8; and all-wheel drive.

Ford F-Series Super Duty

 Super Duty's impressive tug capacity, which maxes out at 32,100 pounds. That's 1,200 more than its nearest rival, the Ram 3500, when equipped with its upgraded 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel V8. Such is the heavy-duty pickup truck business, a diesel-fueled game of one-upmanship with only three players: Ford, Chevrolet/GMC and Ram. And in this game, the one with the most torque wins.

GMC Canyon

The Canyon is equipped with the 3.6-liter V-6, with an EPA fuel-economy rating of 17 mpg city and 24 highway. For a truck equipped with the V-6 and four-wheel drive, the Canyon—and the Colorado, for that matter—may not have hit the efficiency home run some were hoping for, but it still handily beats the Tacoma. 

GMC Sierra

The base powerplant is a 4.3-liter V6 that produces 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque. That torque figure is tops among naturally-aspirated pickup six-cylinders, making the 4.3-liter a good fit for fuel efficiency-focused buyers who also need to do some light towing from time to time. More powerful model is equipped with a 5.3-liter V8 with 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque.

Dodge Ram 1500

The V-6 is tuned for 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque here. It's powerful enough for casual truck users, and is rated at 17/25 mpg--18 mpg city. HEMI V-8 models make 395 horsepower and 407 pound-feet.

Toyota Tundra

For 2015, Tundra offers a choice of two V8s with the same 6-speed automatic. (The V6 engine was dropped.) Much of the sheet metal and interior was new in 2014, so there are no changes for 2015, except the introduction of the 2015 Tundra TRD Pro model, with its own suspension and touches to the body and interior. It’s a 4×4 for serious off-roaders.
